A Milwaukee Police sergeant shot and wounded an armed man in the 5200 block of North 45th St. shortly after noon on Thursday, February 21st, 2013.
Officers from District 4 were dispatched to the report of an armed domestic violence call with shots having been fired. Two sergeants found the man armed with a firearm, inside the residence threatening to kill his girlfriend, children and other family members. While the sergeants were attempting to negotiate with the suspect, he fired the weapon striking his girlfriend and wounding her. A police sergeant then fired his duty weapon at the suspect, wounding him.
The 44-year-old girlfriend was conveyed to a local hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.
A 65-year-old member of the suspect’s family sustained a non life-threatening gunshot wound during the incident. He was conveyed to a local hospital and is being treated.
The 43-year-old suspect was conveyed to a local hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries. He has an arrest record with the Milwaukee Police Department.
The 45-year-old sergeant who shot the suspect is an 18-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department.
As is standard operating procedure, the incident is under investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. The sergeant will be placed on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will make the final determination in the incident.
