Armed Suspect Can’t Outrun MPD

Two District 5 Officers didn’t let a long run and a few fences get in the way of an armed suspect.

On Friday, November 9th, 2012, at 11:15 p.m., District 5 squads responded to a large house party in the area of 20th and Keefe Avenue that was getting out of control. The attendees, mainly young teenagers, became unruly inside the residence and were asked to leave, causing 50-75 teenagers to spill into the street. As they did so, one subject fired one shot in the alley and fled through the yards with two other males.

While on patrol, District 5 Officers Mark Dillman and Sean Mahnke conducted a field interview of three males walking through a vacant field in the area of N. 24th St. and W. Auer Ave. One of the males ran and Officer Dillman immediately began to pursue him. After several blocks and several fences, Officer Dillman was able to take the suspect into custody in the 3300 block of N. 23rd St. While retracing the route, Officer Dillman located the suspect’s coat, watch, and .357 revolver, which was discarded in a fenced-in yard.  While at the station, Officer Mahnke conducted an interview of the suspect, obtaining a full confession.
