D5 Officers Unmask Suspected Robber

November 6th, 2012 by milwaukeepolice

On October 30, 2012 at 1:15 a.m., District 5 P.O. Chad Vartanian responded to an armed robbery at 1955 W. Capitol Dr. P.O. Vartanian broadcast a description of the suspects and a vehicle in which they fled from the scene.

About five blocks from the robbery, District 5 P.O.s Chad Boyack and Nathan Fager observed a vehicle matching P.O. Vartanian’s description operating without its headlights. District 5 P.O. David Letteer, driving alone in another squad car, almost simultaneously observed the suspect vehicle and backed up Boyack and Fager as they attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle, a Chevy minivan, increased its speed and refused to stop for about three miles.

At 5th and Meinecke, the operator stopped, jumped out of the vehicle and dropped a handgun. He was immediately caught by P.O.s Boyack and Fager and taken into custody. During a search incident to arrest, the officers found a winter hat with eyeholes and money in the denominations reported taken from the victim. The whereabouts of the second suspect are unknown but he was not in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Great heads up police work by these officers in District 5!
