Officers in Right Place, Right Time – 4 Times in Same Night

District 5 and Neighborhood Task Force officers were in the right place at the right time on August 30 – four times.

Officers were on patrol in the area of 18th and Olive. A school bus driver saw Officers Gerald Winding and Ronald Villagomez and told them about a juvenile in the area carrying a gun. The officers spotted the suspect and went to stop him. The 15-year-old ran but was unable to escape the officers. …The officers found the juvenile had a handgun.

NTF Tactical Enforcement Officers Tory Lea and Roy Horn were patrolling the area of 16th and Locust when they came upon two men who were in the street firing guns. The suspects ran from the officers but were quickly captured with the assistance of District 5 officers.

Officers Bryan Miller and Keith Garland responded to MLK and Wright St. for a shots fired call. The caller reported seeing a suspect firing a sawed-off shotgun at another person. The suspect fled from the officers. District 5 officers converged on the area and found the 17-year-old suspect hiding in a trashcan. Officers found the discarded sawed-off weapon – a .22 rifle. The officers also found numerous casings.

Officer Dustin Langfeldt responded to a shots fired call near 24 and Auer. The caller provided a description, which was relayed by the dispatcher to Officer Langfeldt. Officer Langfeldt saw the 17-year-old suspect and conducted a field interview. The suspect thought he could outsmart Officer Langfeldt by tossing his .45 pistol with a 30-round magazine into his vehicle but he was no match Officer Langfeldt’s keen observation skills.
