Holiday Heart: District Five Officers Help Homeless Family

January 3rd, 2017 by milwaukeepolice

District Five officers showed some holiday compassion and helped a local homeless family in need of assistance. On December 29, Officers Kyle Graf and Nathan Smalkoski responded to N. 9th Street and W. Burleigh Street for a welfare check. The officers found an adult female and her five children (ranging in age from two weeks to 9 years) who were put out of her sister’s home and didn’t have anywhere to stay. The officers called numerous local shelters but were unable to place the family. The officers decided then to use their own money to pay for a room at a local hotel and buy the family pizza for dinner. The kindness and generosity of these officers highlights the good work done daily by the men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department.
