MPD Catches Burglars in the Act Targeting Foreclosed Homes

On May 24, 2012 at 11:40 p.m., District 6 Lt. Phillip Henschel and Police Officers Justin Jolliff and Phillip Rodriguez responded to an entry in progress at 6526 W. Cleveland Ave. A neighbor, who knew the property was vacant and in foreclosure, had called police to report the entry.

The three District 6 Lt. and officers arrived and found the door locked but they heard noise inside in the basement. The officers made entry and arrested two suspects, both 31-year-old men. The two had locked the door after they broke in. Officers also located the suspects’ vehicle in which they found a notebook with the addresses of nearly 50 vacant,  foreclosed properties written inside.

So far these two suspects have been linked to 17 burglaries of foreclosed properties in District 6 and may be responsible for additional burglaries in surrounding jurisdictions.

Detectives Steve Rowe and Octavio Delgado have interviewed the suspects and taken their confessions. A great job by all getting these prolific burglars out of our neighborhoods.
