MPD Homicide Unit Reports Solved Cases
The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit reports several updates on recent cases:
- The death of Zaire Burris, who was shot as he committed a robbery on October 19, 2012 in the 3100 block of N. 27 St., has been ruled self-defense and therefore justified by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office. This incident is not counted in the Uniform Crime Reporting homicide total of 69 homicides so far this year.
- Detectives arrested three people who were charged in connection with the homicide of Thomas F. Martin on October 1, 2012 at 6:01 p.m. in the 2700 block of N. 23 St. A felony warrant is being sought for one additional suspect.
- Two people are in custody for the child abuse homicide of Jayden M. Banda, a 5-year-old boy who died October 18, 2012 after he was brought to a local hospital. The District Attorney’s office charged the case October 26, 2012.
- Two people were charged in the homicide of Damecio Shaw, who was shot September 9, 2012 in the 2600 block of S. 15 St. Shaw had come with others to commit a robbery of money and drugs at a house in that area and was fatally shot during a struggle for the weapon.
All four of these cases are cleared, and Detectives in the Homicide Unit work tirelessly every day, around the clock to bring justice for the victims and their families. The unit currently has a 68 percent clearance rate on homicide cases, which makes them a leader in the nation.
