The Milwaukee Police Department received body armor, ballistic helmets and specialized bomb squad kits valued at $13,981 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation on September 19.
The awarded body armor and ballistic helmets will protect bomb technicians in the line of duty during emergency situations, while the bomb squad kits will ensure they are able to combat improvised explosive devices, allowing the department to keep their community safe.
This grant award will also allow the Department’s bomb squad to successfully integrate with the SWAT team, enhancing the safety of Milwaukee residents, as well as those in surrounding areas.
Tuesday’s announcement was made at the Firehouse Subs location on Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa. The Milwaukee Police Department Hazardous Devices Unit protects not only the City and County of Milwaukee but also responds to calls in the nine county region.
