MPD, ShotSpotter Net Guns, Drugs

Some bold gun-wielding criminals should have known Milwaukee Police and a high-tech crime-fighting tool were hot on their trail.

Milwaukee Police Officers Joel Susler and Scott Freiburger were on patrol to prevent violent crime this weekend when they heard four gunshots coming from the rear alley in the 2200 block of N. 33rd St.  They saw three subjects running away and were able to arrest two of them after a short foot pursuit.  The subjects threw a gun and drugs down in the 2200 block of N. 33rd St.  Upon examining the gun, the officers saw that several rounds had been fired and several were still inside.  About the same time, Police Officers Miles Kowalik  and Markel McKinley responded to a ShotSpotter alert from the gunshot locator system at the same location.  They arrived moments later and found a shotgun shell next to a car parked at the rear of a vacant house in the same block.  They looked in the auto and found the third subject hiding inside the car.  They searched the vehicle and found a shotgun in the trunk.  All three were arrested on felony drug and weapon charges.

This is why we say, “There’s no such thing as routine patrol!”
