National Police Week, which occurs each year during the week in which May 15 falls, recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
Milwaukee Police will mark this solemn week with the Police/Citizen Merit Award Program on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the Milwaukee Police Academy. Wednesday, the Greater Milwaukee Law Enforcement Service will take place on MacArthur Square at 12:15 p.m. and Friday, May 18 the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be observed in Madison on the Capitol grounds at noon.
Here on The Source, check back each day for a story of heroism by a Milwaukee Police Officer – many of whom will be honored Tuesday night.
