Officers Arrest Robbers; Prevent Future Crimes

On Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 7:06 pm, District 5 Officers Melanie Beasley and Brendan Dolan were dispatched to the area of N. 15th and W. Keefe for an armed robbery complaint. When they arrived, they located the female victim and confirmed that an armed robbery had in fact taken place and there were about seven suspects involved in the offense. The victim said the suspects ran out of a yard in the area immediately prior to the robbery, displayed a firearm, demanded and obtained the victim’s property before fleeing the scene.

During their investigation, Officer Beasley observed a suspect matching the description in the same yard and conducted a field interview of that suspect. This suspect gave several accounts as to why he was in the yard and then admitted to witnessing the robbery but denied participation. This suspect was taken into custody for several outstanding warrants and conveyed to District 5.

Officer Beasley conducted an interview in which the suspect admitted he committed this robbery and that he, along with his co-actors conspired to commit additional robberies. This suspect identified his co-actors and provided the location of the additional suspects.

After responding to that address, four more suspects were taken into custody and the weapon used in the robbery was located and recovered.

The four additional suspects admitted their involvement and wrote apology letters to the victims. Four of the suspects were juveniles and were arrested for their participation in the robbery. One suspect was an adult and also arrested for the robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Due to Officer Beasley and Officer Dolan’s observation of the initial suspect and determination to locate and arrest the additional actors involved, this robbery was cleared by arrest. Additionally, their involvement in this investigation and successful interviews of the suspects prevented additional robberies that the suspects were planning. Officers Beasley and Dolan remain committed to reducing violent crime in District 5 and are commended for their keen observation and dogged investigation.
