Police Seeking Driver Who Struck Bicycle Officer, Fled

Milwaukee Police are searching for the known driver and vehicle that struck a Milwaukee Police bicycle officer at 1708 W. Greenfield Avenue, at 10:35 p.m. Thursday.

Bicycle officers were on Greenfield on patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle that they had seen earlier in the evening. During the earlier stop, the officers had attempted to talk with the driver when he was double parked but the driver refused to interact in any way with the officers and he drove away.

When the officers saw the vehicle again at 10:35, this time parked at a curb, they approached cautiously. The driver looked directly at one officer who he saw in his front window and accelerated the vehicle, striking the officer, who was thrown across the hood of the vehicle and then to the ground. The officers were clearly visible as police, as the street in that area is well lit.

The 29-year old, six year veteran of the department, is assigned to District 2. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital. After striking the officer, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Milwaukee Police have identified the driver and are seeking him this morning.
