Police Week 2012: MPD Captain Saves Child from Drowning

Central Investigations Bureau Capt. Chad M. Wagner will be presented the Lifesaving Award at Tuesday night’s Milwaukee Police/Citizen Merit Awards Ceremony in honor of his bravery.

On the afternoon of Sunday, August 7, 2011, Capt. Chad M. Wagner and his family were at a birthday party in the city of Franklin. Some of the children were swimming in an in-ground pool when an off-duty deputy sheriff’s deputy noticed a child lying face-down and motionless on the bottom of the pool. He called out to Capt. Wagner and they both dove into the pool and removed the child from the water. Both men administered CPR while they waited for emergency medical personnel. When rescue personnel arrived on the scene, the child was breathing on his own. He was conveyed to Children’s Hospital where he fully recovered.

The child’s grandparents are expected to attend Tuesday’s ceremony to express their gratitude in person to Capt. Wagner.

We are proud to call him a Milwaukee Police Officer.
