A 35-year-old Milwaukee man is in police custody this afternoon after chasing a group of people with a sword and then locking himself inside his apartment on Milwaukee’s north side.
The suspect, who was shouting incoherently and armed with a sword, chased a group of people who were walking to their apartment in the 1200 block of E. Singer Circle at about 12:20 p.m. on February 11. The victims, who were not injured, were able to run to their car, drive away, and call police.
Responding officers discovered that the suspect had locked himself in his apartment. and he refused the officers commands to come out. Officers with the Tactical Enforcement Unit responded, and after over an hour of attempting to negotiate the suspect out of the apartment a chemical agent was deployed into the residence. The suspect came out without incident.
The suspect will be taken to the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex for evaluation and the case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
