They are the people who bring the officers and police personnel onto the department, and the Human Resources Division at the Milwaukee Police Department is overdue for recognition of what it takes to make that happen.
The Human Resources Division brought 108 new Milwaukee Police Department members on board between June 1 through August 6, 2012. The community may not be aware of all the steps it takes to hire one individual, which include background checks (do not forget about the non-recommended, disqualifications and withdrawal), notification correspondence to applicant and tracking of correspondence, payroll processing (setting up payroll records, , creating HR records (hard card, folders, medical files, etc.) and coordinating with other work locations.
The process does not stop on the day the member is hired. Additional administrative work must be completed including numerous forms for law enforcement personnel, pension forms, health insurance, etc. Managers from Medical, Payroll and HR meet in person with new hires to review contractual benefits and rules and procedures. Just imagine what it takes to bring on 108 new members during this very short time period. All done with very little overtime.
The Division is currently in the process of hiring approximately 30-35 School Crossing Guards. They are also conducting background investigations on Fire Cadets and Firefighter applicants.
We appreciate the members of the HR Division for their hard work and dedication to staffing the Milwaukee Police Department with the best candidates.
